The McDonnell F2H Banshee was one of the earliest jet fighters adopted by the US Navy. The F2H flew in 1948 and served as a front-line fighter throughout the 1950s. The F2H was prominent in the Korean War as a close air support and escort fighter. The Banshee was later adapted as a night fighter and photo reconnaissance platform. Astronaut Jim Lovell flew the F2H night fighter from 1954 to 1956. This 1/72 kit from Academy recreates the F2H-3, the all-weather interceptor version, as seen with VF-41, the Black Aces. The finished model is 20.1 cm long and 5.15 cm high.
