At the time of its production in late 1942, the German Tiger was said to be the most powerful tank in the world. Distinct for its 88mm gun, 100mm thick armor, and a host of other features including its air cleaner at the rear of the hull, the cylindrical commander's cupola, smoker dischargers, and turret pistol port, it was built to tackle almost anything you could throw at it. However, the tanks suffered under their own weight, and transmission issues required drivers to avoid overtaxing the engine. Most famously, a captured Tiger was acquired by the Soviets after it was abandoned in a swamp where it was stuck. The Soviets were able to develop countermeasures based on this salvaged vehicle.
