The Valentine Mk.I was the first production version of one of Britains most successful and widely produced infantry tanks of World War II. Entering service in 1940, the Valentine quickly earned a reputation for its compact design, mechanical reliability, and well-protected armor, serving with British and Commonwealth forces in North Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. While later variants received more powerful armament, the Mk.I represented the beginning of a tank family that would remain in frontline service throughout the war and see extensive use under the Lend-Lease program with the Soviet Union.
