The Centurion Mk.I marked the beginning of what would become one of the most successful and influential tank designs of the post-Second World War era. Developed by Great Britain during the closing months of World War II, the Centurion combined heavy armor, excellent cross-country mobility, and a powerful main gun into a balanced design that set the standard for the modern main battle tank. Although the Mk.I arrived too late to see combat in Europe, it served as the foundation for numerous improved variants that would remain in front-line service around the world for decades and see action in conflicts ranging from Korea to the Middle East.
