Used for painting vehicles and other equipment of the German Army from July 1937 until July 1940 as a complementary camouflage color to RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau (according to the official regulations; however, it appears that many military vehicles were painted in Dunkelgrau only already during the Polish Campaign). According to the army regulations RAL 7017 should cover 1/3 of vehicles surface in form of irregular patches with soft edges.
