The Toyota 87C 1987 Shakedown was the prototype Group C endurance race car that laid the groundwork for Toyotas entry into top-level sports car racing in the late 1980s. Designed for the World Sportscar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 87C featured a twin-turbocharged 3.2L inline-4 engine mid-mounted in a sleek, aerodynamic carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis. The Shakedown version refers to the early test and shakeout runs before the cars competitive debut, allowing engineers to refine aerodynamics, suspension, and reliability. With its wedge-shaped body, large rear wing, and advanced Group C technology, the 87C represented Toyotas first serious attempt at competing with the dominant Porsche 962s of the era.
