The USS Guam (CB-2) was the second and last completed ship of the Alaska-class large cruisers built for the United States Navy during World War II. Though designated as a large cruiser, the Alaska-class ships were effectively battlecruisersdesigned to counter heavily armed enemy cruisers and commerce raiders like Germanys Scharnhorst or Japans Tone-class cruisers.
