At the end of the '60s the Mikoyan Design Bureau developed the worlds first interceptor fighter with speed of Mach 3 the MiG-25. At the same time, the high reconnaissance-bomber modification was designed, which was called the MiG-25RB.

These reconnaissance planes served in Soviet (later Russian) Air Force, and were delivered to Irag and Syria. MiG-25RB Iraqi Air Force was used for bomb attacks during the Iran-Iraq war of 1980-1988.
