The USS Atlanta (CL-51) was a light cruiser that served in the United States Navy during World War II. Commissioned in December 1941, the Atlanta was part of the highly specialized Atlanta-class cruisers, which were designed to counter enemy aircraft with their heavy anti-aircraft armament. Measuring approximately 541 feet in length and with a displacement of around 6,000 tons, the USS Atlanta boasted a main battery of 16 5-inch guns and an array of anti-aircraft weaponry, including dual-purpose 5-inch guns and numerous smaller caliber guns.
