Germanys most widely produced medium tank at the height of its wartime evolution, the Panzer IV Ausf. H embodies the Wehrmachts response to increasingly formidable Allied armor. Entering production in 1943, the Ausf. H featured enhanced armor protection, including factory-applied Zimmerit anti-magnetic coating and the addition of side skirts (Schrzen) designed to defeat anti-tank rifles and shaped charges. Armed with the long-barreled 7.5cm KwK 40 L/48 gun, it remained a highly capable adversary across both Eastern and Western Fronts, balancing firepower, mobility, and reliability in a way few contemporaries could match.
