Japanese Army Air Forces only mass-produced liquid-cooled engine fighter aircraft during World War II. Introduced in 1942, the Ki-61 Hien, nicknamed Tony by Allied forces, was notable for its sleek design and formidable armament, which included two 12.7mm (.50in) Ho-103 machine guns and two 20mm Ho-5 cannon.
